Art & The Community

“Artists Reaching Out Through Art”

Art plays an important role in bringing communities together and cultivating and supporting diversity. In fact, art improves individual health. Either engaging in creative activity or simply attending some kind of artistic event appears to improve physical health (Angus 1999; Baklien 2000; Ball and Keating 2002; Bygren, Konlaan and Johansson 1996; HDA 2000; Thoits and Hewitt 2001).

With that being said, RRAA’s positioning statement: “Artists reaching out through art” anchors the philosophy and premise of art improving individual health (and well being).

RRAA reaches out to its community in various ways: after school programs through the Rio Rancho Public School District’s SAFE Program, offering free art programs via the local library or a special event (such as the “Paint With and Artist” and “Photograph With An Artist Program” offered at the Esther Bone Library programs), art donations for other non-profit fund raisers, and reaching out to undeserved populations, to name a few.

You can help RRAA reach to the community by supporting it in various ways. Become a member and volunteer (you need not be an artist to become a member-you can join just to help support RRAA in its community outreach), or just donate money! It will be put to good use. RRAA is operated soley on a volunteer basis by the members- no one takes a salary or any kind of financial enumeration.
